Software - Did kscreensaver break on you? Install xscreensaver Bam - 04.06.2006, 20:13 Uhr Titel: Did kscreensaver break on you? Install xscreensaver
It happened to me again during my last dist-upgrade...kscreensaver stopped working. I noticed another poster here with the same problem. This has been happening to me with KDE upgrades since my days of using Mandrake & Suse, so this isn't a Kanotix/Debian problem. It seems kscreensaver likes to break during KDE upgrades.
You can solve it by switching to xscreensaver:
apt-get install xscreensaver
You can configure it by running "xscreensaver-demo". Remember to pick "Restart Daemon" under the file tab to get the settings to stick.
To get xscreensaver to autstart with KDE:
Create a text file named "xscreensaver.desktop" with the following entry:
save the file to your home directory /.kde/Autostart folder.
If you want the xscreensaver splash screen to show when starting KDE, remove the -nosplash option.

Thanks for that Bam
kscreensaver is still at 3.5.2 in the Debian rep[ository although
most of the major elements of KDE have been upgraded to 3.5.3.
Because this bug report is for 3.5.3 it looks to me as if something
in the major KDE elements has broken kscreensaver.
When I've posted this I shall add my findings to the bug report.

Well kscreensaver 3.5.3 still has the same problem on my setup.
xscreensaver is unfortunately no alternative as it destroys the mouse pointer when suspending/resuming the laptop Bam - 09.06.2006, 08:48 Uhr Titel: RE: Did kscreensaver break on you? Install xscreensaver
Sorry to hear that xscreensaver didn't work for you Neuer_User....I can't offer any more help on your situation. I'm running on a desktop & don't deal with suspend/resume, so I haven't run into your problem.

By the way for anyone who doesn't know you can use your favourite
KDE screensaver with xscreensaver by adding it to the end of the list
of screensavers in .xscreensaver.
All the kde screensavers are in /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers.
