I am trying to run kanotix live cd but i keep getting this udevd-event [1008]:run_program:exec of program/usr/lib/hal/hal.hotplug faile: permission denied Init:panic:segmentation violation at oxffffe 420! sleeping for 30 seconds. What should i do .thanks

is this a cd that you checked with "testcd" and the result was "Everything looks ok"?

What version of Kanotix ?

Did you check the MD5sum of the ISO ?

Try cheatcode failsafe

How did you burn the ISO ? burn in DAO-mode not faster than 8x (DAO = Disc At Once)

You can also try memtest & testcd

Yes i did the testcd and it ckeck out ok. i used nero to burn and the slowest i could go was 10x

More importantly than the speed is DAO, you have to burn in DAO

Kanotix uses high compression technology, special care is needed when burning the CD

What's the name of your iso file? KANOTIX-2006-EASTER-RC4.iso and KANOTIX-2006-VDR-RC6.iso are the most recent releases.

Version information is also displayed in the grub boot menu.

Okay. First of all, please open a new thread with a meaningful subject line such as "CD boot fails: udevd-event[693]". This will increase the likelihood that the developers find your post.
Secondly, you could try to bypass the error by booting off the iso file: Start windows and copy the Kanotix iso file to the root directory of windows drive C:. The file path should be C:\KANO*.iso.
Then boot again off the Kanotix cd, but this time add cheat code "fromiso=KAN*.iso" to the line of boot commands. This will instruct Kanotix to mount the iso file instead of trying to access the dvd drive.

My mistake for thinking you were getting this error inside kanotix
