Titel: dissapearing fonts after last apt upgrade
Has anyone else effected with xorg-fonts problems? this seem to start with this last apt upgrade I've made last night.

The symptoms are identical to the previous issue

Does this help you?

m -rf /etc/fonts
apt-get install --reinstall --yes -o DPkg::Options::=--force-confmiss -o DPkg::Options::=--force-confnew fontconfig fontconfig-config

fix-fonts -e

no - actually made things slightly worse - now i can't see the font at the kdm login screen. (btw - the first command i assumed was "rm" not "m")

maybe this is a clue: some of the blank (invisible) text appears when i mouse over it or select it

Are you using accellerated video drivers?

Did you reinstall them?

<edit> What I'm saying is, I had the same problem, until I ran the "update-scripts-kanotix.sh" and "install-nvidia-debian.sh" scripts after the dist-upgrade.

I actually couldn't see the last few lines of what "eco2geek" wrote about re-installing the video drivers (in my case nVidia) so, once I did:

Code:
update-scripts-kanotix.sh

and then

Code:
install-nvidia-debian.sh

after the dist-upgrade

everything worked smooth again....

thanks Sehr glücklich

I just tried that and there is no change. Fonts are still "now you see 'em, now you don't."

actually, i don't think this should be called a "font problem" but a display problem.

here is another bug, which may or may not be related:
1. go into console mode using [CTRL] + [ALT] + [F1].
2. enter "init 3"
3. instead of going straight into single-user mode, the screen blanks out and presents me with another console log-in.
4. then i can log in to another console (i think it's called TTY2), and THEN i can enter "init 3" to get the expected result, i.e. single-user mode

if this is not related, maybe i'll start another thread...

Zitat:
The new kde 3.5.4 may distort or break the fonts in gtk applications.
The fix for this is simple. After the dist-upgrade, when you're back in kde:

1. Go in kcontrol (control center) -> Appearances and Themes -> Fonts
2. Disable antialiased fonts ( uncheck the box if checked )
3. Save [apply], Re-enable [check] again, and save [apply] again

tried that, but no changes. still can't see most of the text on screen. maybe i'll just have to bite the bullet and reinstall. is there a way to generate a list of all programs i've added (with apt) since my last install? i realize my config settings are kept, but it would be nice to know all the little progs i've added
