Titel: Any way to undelete files from an ext3 filesystem?
Adding "delete" to Konqueror's context menu finally bit me in the butt. It wasn't a terribly important directory, but it was one I wanted to keep. So no more of that...
Is there any way to undelete individual files/directories from an ext3-based filesystem? According to e2undel's web page, you can't:
Zitat:
In general, ext2 and ext3 are compatible file systems: You can mount an ext3 fs as ext2 and even use the ext2 low level utilities like debugfs. However, ext3 behaves in a different manner in one crucial point: If a file is deleted, its inode data are removed, too. Especially, the list of data blocks is lost; so it is not possible to recover any deleted file.
Is this true?

Unmount your partition straight away, and then look at:
http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/420
and take particulare note of step 5 (Run PhotoRec)
... says it supports ext2 and ext3
... I haven't tried it though.

And always work on partition images for rescue work, but chances aren't that good.
