General Support - Intel Duo Core

Light question tonight - I promise.

I shall be getting a new laptop shortly and wondered if the latest kernals / Kanotix support the Intel Duo Core Chips?

Could you let me know if this is the case. It makes sense to go for the newer chips - but only if they are supported under Linux.

Thanks

Andy

Kernels support Intel Centrino Duo without any problem but ... Depending on the Chip/Codec sound might not (yet?) be working with ACPI on. So it might be a good idea to check it with a live CD before buying the laptop if not having sound is a showstopper. Unfortunatelly they usually do not have the sound chip/codec on the info sheets. But if: do not go for a Conexant chip/codec. It does not work on my Toshiba, and even people testing Vista are struggling with that piece of ...

Otherwise: *-kanotix-kernels (which are smp-kernels) work very well on that machine, and I hope kernel and alsa developers get the clue how to handle this Conexant-chip.

kano's recent 2.6.18-kanotix-2 kernel has added duo core support, but hopefully someone who knows what that support actually is will post, but that is the current recommended duo-core kernel for kanotix.

oh fu...ny. that's why my HP dv6000z is having a hard time with sound. however, I can hear the "Initializing startup sequence" then the sound dies

My Thinkpad T60 is Intel T2400 1.83Ghz. Kanotix detected two cpu's right from the get-go. Audio too. The only problems I've had are with the built-in wlan ipw3945d (solved) and the hard drive gets wicked hot (still working on it)

When I boot linux, there are two penguins at the top of the screen.

Will that kernel support laptop core 2 duo as well (e.g. the T5500 thru T7600)?

That kernel added jmicron support. Core 2 Duo is already supported fine.
