Titel: How to install Lexmark network printer - Solved
Hi Folks,

I just installed 2006-1-RC on my Dell Laptop computer (long story short - Wincrap XP BSOD for the last time). Anyway in my home I have a Lexmark Color Laser Network printer. I put the CD in and Kpackage launched and it says that it installed ok. But I don't see it when I try to printer. The printer just sits on the network with its own ip address.

I tried to use the control center and add the printer there but I am having no luck.

Any ideas how to continue?

Thanks

P.S. When I try to enable my wireless network card, Kanotix locks up and I have to power down and restart. I really like to get that working along with my Logitech bluetooth mouse.

Thanks again

RR

Open up Komqueror and type in :

http://localhost:631

This will bring up the CUPS webbased Interface:

Click the Add Printer tab (from memory this maybe in the Admin Tab)

If you still have no joy follow the links in this thread

Hopefully, CUPS (the Common Unix Printing System, which most Linux distros use as a printer back-end) comes with a driver for your printer.

If so, there's an easier way. You will find logging into the CUPS web interface to be the usual recommendation here, but for a network printer, KDE's front end is more user-friendly.

Go to the Control Center, Peripherals, then Printers. Click the "Administrator Mode" button and enter your root password. Click the Add pull-down menu, then "Add printer/class..." to start a wizard. On the second screen, you will see a radio button for "Network Printer". On the next screen, your network printer will (hopefully) already be listed. It's pretty self-explanatory from there on.

Thanks BlueWater and Eco2geek

The cd that came with the printer included a debian package.

I will test some more and see what works.

Thanks again

I finally found some time. I got the printer to print. I had to dl the pdd files from lexmark and tell Cups which file it use.

Thanks
