The usb stick is mounted as /mediai/USB DISK, is there a to get rid of the space between USB and DISK or jusr renmae it to usb?
Also, the fonts in Firefox are ugly, preferences->font option does not provide much improvement. Is there a remedy?

The label of your usb stick is the mountpoint.

for ff:
install msttcorefonts, choose appropriate font, play around, search forum.....

Most easy way: use mlabel or a Win PC.
