Titel: Kanotix mit XP zusammen?

Hallo Ihr, ich habe mir auf mein Laptop Acer Extensa 5220, wo schon XP drauf war, noch Kanotix installiert (mit Grub als Bootloader). Leider fährt jetzt mein XP nicht mehr hoch, nur noch Kanotix. Kann ich auch beide Systeme gleichzeitig verwenden? Danke im Voraus fürs helfen.

wo hast du denn Xp und wo hast du Kanotix auf welcher Partition?
falls es nicht weißt:
fdisk -l

und poste mal die Ausgabe wenn du in der Konsole
cat /boot/grub/menu.lst
machst

Kanotix habe ich auf hda1, xp auf hda5

Per default startet XP nicht von hda5, weil da gar kein Bootloader installiert wird in ner erweiterten Partition. Der Bootloader von Win liegt IMMER auf ner primären Partition.

sda5 brauchst nicht "scheinheilig" mit nem Bootflag markieren, es ist auf normalen Wege nicht möglich, dass Win davon bootet (ich hab definitv keinte Lust dir hier Win Support zu zeigen, wo du nedmal auf der MS Seite nachlesen könntest). Mit Fantasie könnte man vielleicht nen Bootloader auf sda4 hinkriegen, auch wenn bislang keiner drauf ist. Ansonsten leg doch noch ne sda2 Partition an und installiere dort drauf Win, weil du hast noch nicht zugewiesenen Speicherplatz.

Also da frage ich mich schon wie man zu dieser Konstellation kommt, dass win auf sda5 landet. Bei einem neuen PC ist win XP auf der ersten primären Partition, wo man es auch läßt. Jeder Installer einer vernünftige Linux-Distrie würde davon ausgehen. Bei der Kanotixinstallation wird i.d.R. ein chainloadereintrag für win generiert.
Also selbst wer nicht weiß, dass win nicht von der erweiterten Partition bootet, wird diesem Problem im Normalfall nicht begegnen. Ergo gehe ich davon aus, dass da ein paar ziemlich unüberlegte Partitionierungsaktionen waren entweder von dir oder einem Vorbesitzer. Wenn das XP unvernünftigerweise mit einem Partionierungstool verschoben wurde und nichts weiter verändert, kann man es vielleicht mit dem selben tool auf den freien Speicherplatz kopieren bzw. verschieben.
Ansonsten halt win dort neu installieren,
Dabei wird grub im mbr aber von win wieder überschrieben und muss man mit Kanotix-Cd neu schreiben.

Ich sagte dir doch schon gestern: du brauchst nur die Linux Partition aktiv setzen nach der XP install.

und wie geht das? das XP habe ich jetzt in die entsprechende Partition installiert. doch wie setze ich die Partition auf "aktiv"? Frage

indem du das bootflag für deine Linuxpartition setzt. Ganz einfach wäre es mit der GUI gparted (rechte Maustaste auf deine Partition --> bootflags setzen oder sowas)
geht natürlich auch mit fdisk
