| There are new variants of the Kanopenguins wallpapers in the first post. They have the Kanotix logo on the top right so it doesn't interfere with the hdd device icons for people with more than 6 paritions. |

Cathbard, the wallpapers are really nice - but too small  . Looks ugly pixelized on my display. Is it possible to make a bigger and widescreen version preferably in 1920x1200? A 1280x800 version maybe would do it too, then it is pixelized but at least scaled ok.

A German splashy? Give me the translation and I'll see what I can do. (F2 doesn't work in this release, should be ok in the next splashy release)
As for a bigger version, I am limited a little by the size of the original background image but I guess I could do something with the correct aspect ratio when I get a chance. |

hi,
I have a proposal for a new style instead of plastik. I really like QtCurve (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=40492). It exists a kde version and a gtk version, so both applications can look the same. moreover this style has many configuration options.
here is a screenshot to demonstrate it:

Well I've had a crack at a beryl theme to go with the penguin desktop. You'll find it in the fourth post. (or click the piccy below.)
If you change it's name to Kanotix-Cathbard1.cgwdtheme it should work ok on compiz but I haven't tested it. |

You need the beta nvidia drivers, This is from IRC:
install the nvidia 9625 drivers and beryl with:
Code:
install-nvidia-debian.sh -c
wget -Nc http://kanotix.com/files/fix/beryl/beryl-mix.tar.gz
dpkg -i *deb
apt-get install -f
then, as user: beryl-manager, and see http://www.kanotix.com/index.php?module ... utostartEN
for autostart
That is what I did. ^^There's a thread about aiglx in this section that is probably a better place to take problems. I do find it more stable than compiz but I'm using different nvidia now as well so .......... |

What I don't like about qtCurve (just from the screenshots, haven't installed it: there is no up button on the slider bottom. Or is it configurable too?
Edit: Have installed it - no, it cannot be configured that way... I'd prefer Polyester which is configurable in that way and can also nearly look like Plastik. But why not stay with the default look Plastik? |

I'm sorry for the stupid question but I don't use kde very often. How do I install your new peguin theme? I've tried to figure it out but haven't had much luck. Thanks much

Thanks. The reason we went with those words is because that's what the audio greeting says. "Initialising startup sequence" and that was the startup sequence. Same for the shutdown.
We were trying to be humorous in a geeky sorta way. Maybe it doesn't translate well.

That's a loaded question. What kanotix are you running? You need a recent grub (gfxboot>3)
As far as I'm aware, if you have a fairly up to date kanotix then it's:
apt-get install kanotix-graphics
and then you may still need
wget -qO- http://kanotix.com/files/fix-kanotix-graphics.sh|sh
Then you should have the themes available in kcontrol. There is a kdm theme manager in System Admin and the splashes are in appearances and themes.
Things like the xmms skin and beryl have to be done manually by downloading the files from the first page of this thread (is it all still on one page?)
There's other hints buried in the pages of this thread too. I see that bootsplash may become standard in new Kanotix kernels too so acritox's script will work for all the bootsplash fans. |

It doesn't matter where you put the emerald theme. I keep everything on one place but it doesn't matter. You just open the Emerald Theme Manager in Beryl-Manager and click Import. Then just navigate to the file and install it.
In reality it just creates a subfolder in ~/.emerald/themes for each theme but using the Theme Manager is easier.
I've made a second beryl theme now too. A gothic one with new buttons (drawn specially for it) that also goes with the penguin theme. |

I hate the standard mime icon for html on KDE. I thought an icon specifically for the startup faq document in live cd mode was called for. It could also be used for any kanotix specific thing you access with konqueror.
Just click on it to get the full set (also in the fourth post with all the others). The best place to put them is in the /usr/share/icons/hicolor directories. (ie /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128/apps ... and so on. The folder structure in the archive should make it obvious where they all go -and make sure you're root ) then they will be available if you change iconsets.

PS: My Carmen Electra splash has now passed the 3000 download mark at kde-look.org and the wallpaper has passed 2000. It's amazing how many places that's shown up. |

I've been playing again. It's just another variation of the kanotix penguins but with different writing. Don't mind me, I was just being artistic. It's in the first post with all the others (or just click the pic below). It's at the bottom of the kanopengins series right above the debianpool wallpaper.
And for fun....This has gotta be useful for something. It has a transparent background and no shadows (except on the debian swirl) so it will paste into things easily. (Just click on it)

We use the debian logo's all the time. I thought that this being a debian derivative would allow us to use debian stuff. The name debian never appears without the name kanotix beside it in a more prominent setting.
If there are restrictions in that area I need to know. |

I've been playing with a logo idea. I added them to the fourth post. They have a transparent background so adding effects will be easy.
