In the last couple of weeks, I have been having alot of probs with IP addresses changing (even though set for manual) at bootup and therefore killing either my samba connection, my internet connection, or both. After much tweeking and expermenting I have come to the conclusion that I have 2 or more apts trying to assign the network IPs. Part of the bases of that is in my kcontrol I have two groups (one called internet and networking (I think, not at my box at the moment) and Kanotix, they both have a section that deals with IP settings. The one under the Kanotix group is always the way I want it setup, the one under the internet group alway has IP 169.254.124.0. Now if I try to set the IP from there, the situation does not improve, but if I go through netcardconfig, everything is corrected. My question is, is there a way of finding out which apts are trying to set IPs so I can remove the ones neccessary to fix the problem? |

Looking at the syslog I found these lines of the bootup record
Aug 24 08:25:44 localhost ntpd[1842]: ntpd 4.2.2@1.1532-o Wed Aug 9 12:08:53 UTC 2006 (1)
Aug 24 08:25:44 localhost ntpd[1843]: precision = 1.000 usec
Aug 24 08:25:44 localhost ntpd[1843]: Listening on interface wildcard, 0.0.0.0#123 Disabled
Aug 24 08:25:44 localhost ntpd[1843]: Listening on interface lo, 127.0.0.1#123 Enabled
Aug 24 08:25:44 localhost ntpd[1843]: Listening on interface eth0, 169.254.124.0#123 Enabled
Aug 24 08:25:44 localhost ntpd[1843]: Listening on interface eth0, 192.168.7.151#123 Enabled
Aug 24 08:25:44 localhost ntpd[1843]: kernel time sync status 0040
Aug 24 08:25:44 localhost ntpd[1843]: frequency initialized 0.000 PPM from /var/lib/ntp/ntp.drift
Now my question here is that is ntpdate the one creating the two IPs for eth0, if it is, how do you configure it to stop doing that, or is it the case it found the 2 IPs and if it has, what apts are creating those IPs? |
