I just connected my sony digital camera. I used dmesg to find it and edited the fstab. used root konsole to mkdir Sony in media. When I open Konqueror I get this message:
Zitat:
Feature only available with HAL
If however, I open File Manager - Super User Mode I can open and view my photos. My fstab entry is:
Zitat:
/dev/sdb1 /media/Sony vfat rw,user,auto 0 0
Still working on understanding the options column in fstab. Any suggestions on what I need to correct/edit/change? and why I can't view in Konqueror without being a Super User?

Hi John
hmm, maybe try
dpkg --force-all --purge hal
apt-get install hal
reboot
But please wait for more feedback as I am not sure on this. |

Here's another "Maybe try ...": Boot off the LiveCd with Camera attached. Ideally, Kanotix will identify the device, create a desktop icon for it and mount it when you click on it. Then go to /etc/fstab and take a look at the mounting parameters. |

Thanks for the replies. I will try the liveCD method first, less drastic. I think I did this once before. When I first installed kanotix, I tried mounting the camera and found a bunch of stuff via google and it worked. I am sure I was able to view it without having to be root. Honestly, I think I have the wrong stuff in fstab. Will let you know the outcome. Might be a day or two before I can do it.
Thanks again,
John |

Piper,
Okay, why wait. I always hated to do things the easy way. Played with fstab and changed some of the settings and the more I thought (I know, dangerous) the more it seemed wrong. Deleted everything about the camera from fstab (just the one line), save and exited. Ran the commands you suggested and rebooted. Plugged in the camera, turned it on and a window popped up that allowed me to open and view the pictures. Closed that all down. Unplugged the camera, plugged in the camera, the window popped up and I hit cancel. Went to Kongueror and clicked on media. There was a listing for a new device there and it showed the pictures on the camera. Worked both ways, no problem. Damn, this is a good distro!!
Problem solved.
Thanks to all
