          | I finally succeeded to have this card recognized, and working. Since Kernel 2.6.17 has a fix for that controller chip, I did install kanotix Easter preview onto a PATA drive, then disabled upgrade for the X server (see home page & news), and upgraded using
 # apt-get update
 # apt-get upgrade

I needed several runs of this until all has been installed cleanly.

After that, I installed the new kernel 2.6.17.11-kanotix-2 following the instructions given in the FAQ for kernel updates - and everything is copacetic!

I tried a lot of things to get this board recognized. I tried the following distros:

 - Knoppix 5.0.1 (finds it, but the debian install off the DVD does not)
- FC 6 test 2 (works, but it's not debian...)
 - Suse OpenLinux 10.1 (has not found it)
 - Kubuntu 6.06 and 6.06-1 (have not found it)
 - Debian Sarge 3.1r2 (has not found it).

So much for buying "new" hardware...

My configuration is 4x300GB Maxtor SATA II drive 6V300F0 as 4x JBOD, software RAID using md/mdadm.

Hope this helps somebody else to get his system up a bit quicker.

A big Thank You to kano and friends - great distribution, and good web site!

 Peter
