Look for the KDE superuser file manger...On mine it under system/ more apps, use this tool and go to /etc/kde3/kdm/ subdirectery ,,, edit file kdmrc, command statement AllowRootLogin=false to AllowRootLogin=true |

There is a way to log in as root, quit x by for example init3, log in as root and then startx
I have done that before and maybe it works now also. |

nitto, that is simply preventing users from doing something that they should never for any reason do, ever.
As noted, root user is only for admin tasks, and there are easy ways to get into specific areas, konqueror superuser file browser is very convenient for changing things in file system, and each other application often has a root login mode to start it.
There is never a time when a user should be logged into kde as root, and that's why kde no longer offers that option. |

Of course kde still offers the option- hence adding the line in the config re-allows root logins. I agree this shouldnt actually be done- but the fact remains if a user chooses to do so- then thats there problem. Plenty of distros long ago removed root login in kdm- debian (or maybe kde in general) must have just caught up.
Far quicker- and safer is to sux/su like h2 and others said. |
