Hi, I really like Kanotix but am having problems when running an update. I did a fresh load last night. Then I ran apt-get update. After I run this update my root logon ID is not longer recognized to start various utilities like adept. Also, it seems to hang whenever it launches anything. The only other thing I did was install superkarama using this command. apt-get install superkaramba
I'm going to reload one more time and not run the apt-get update. It has hosed me up twice now. I'll update individule packages as needed I guess. |

as said in other thread, use RC4, but what you discribe, should not happen with any other release.
please check your cd with cheatcode testcd at boottime.

Actually, I just did a fresh load and the first thing I did was launch adept. It took just as long to load. So I guess I"ll run your check. I dunno it could just be my system. It's only slow when launching certain stuff that requires root password. I just dojn't know why my root id gets hosed. |

well, why not use apt straight? what happens then?
adept is not in kanotix anymore for a reason.

Ah, well I only know of adept since it's a GUI tool. I can easily search for packages installed/uninstalled,etc. using it. I wouldn't know how to do that with apt from a command line. I run apt to get superkaramba and stuff after someone told me how to get karamba installed on here.
Swynndla
Anyways, Swynndla yeah that's what happened to me and I followed that thread to recover two times after updating now. I don't think I'll update yet if I don't need to for Karamaba for Easter 2k6. Thanks
EDIT, I'm a glutten for punishment. I just did the same thing 3 LOADS IN A ROW. Since I had to run apt-get update to load superkarmaba it hosed it up again. EXACT same problem with my root password. Then running the apt-get install kdebase will only make things worse causing KDE errors when trying to add CUPS printers and such. No more updating for me with the Easter load I'm using.. Maybe I'll try RC4. |
