          | hi i'm trying to find a good PDF viewer for kanotix. this is my first time with it so i may need some help. just finding programs to download is tuff. and since it is just a cd how do i install something? i'd like to just view a pdF file. currently with the onboard pdf viewer i get bad or chopped up data. it's all messed up and if i can read it generally the quality it poor.
any suggestions. i've been using windows all my life so this is really new. i'd love to embrace kanotix.

          | I checked out a few to see how they rendered pdf pages and found acrobat to be the best apart from the time it takes to load.

          | so how do i install acrobat? and where? i'm completely new at this. see i'm running a live cd and i don't have a hard drive. would this be a problem? how does this affect my computer. does the program get stored in the ram? if so this would probably slow down my computer.
is there any way i could embedd acrobat into a new version of kanotix cd?

          | I use kpdf. Gets installed with kde. Smaller & faster than Acrobat Reader. Actually, I think it installs with Kanotix.
Actually works much better for cut'n'paste in OOo than Acrobat.

xpdf is available from Debian repository. Also good. and fast.

          | I just tried kpdf for the first time in ages - the rendering looked poor compared with acrobat reader - lettering was indistinct. Also, a 'cut and paste' from kpdf into ooo put a ? instead of ' in 'won't' even though the original was right. Image paste placed an awful kdf image (like the original!); acrobat looked fine.
Versuviusx - If you are only using a live cd, you can get a klik version of acrobat reader; alternatively, set up a persistent home and install via apt-get.

          | kpdf: for every day use acrobatreader: if I need more

How to get acrobatreader? Isn't it in the Debian repository? If not: the it is in a repository which for legal reasons cannot be mentioned here but just ask in #irc to get an answer.

 apt-get install acroread

          | Cause Adobe Acrobat is non free software, it cannot be found in the Debian Repos. Anyway I think KPDF is much better. You can also try Evince, KGhostView or XPDF. |
