Greetings, everyone.
Recently I have been going around my house, and updating a few computers to run Kanotix, from windows. Yes, upgrade. I've finally managed to get one computer working with Kanotix and the internet (Hence I'm posting this) But I've having a few issues with the Wireless Keyboard and mouse setup.
When I start up the computer, with Bluetooth MS Intellimouse/keyboard plugged in, via the USB stick provided, the booting will not recgnoize the keyboard for mouse. Thus, when Grub starts up, I cannot select which OS I'd like to boot into. Is there a way to fix this, so that on bootup both devices are working.
I've also tried unplugging the standard keyboard and mouse, during boot-up and trying to 'force' the system to read the USB ones. Instead I get the error:
Code:
USB 2.2.3.1 DEvice descriptor Read/all error -110
However this doesn't help me, because as stated before I need the system startup to load the USB keyboard and mouse, so that when GRUB comes up I'm able to select the OS system.
Any help or general direction into getting this working?? Thanks |

Think about this, grub is not linux, it's just a boot loader. So it can't handle kernel tasks, such as running bluetooth.
Not until the kernel loads can you run kernel tasks. I am fairly sure this is how it works anyway.
However, there are maybe some things that might work: try using a usb to ps2 adaptor and see if that works for boot up, maybe it will, hard to say.
I avoid all wireless stuff as much as possible, and because of that, I never have any wireless related issues. Personally, I think wireless mice are an invitation to carpal tunnel due to their extra weight, but that's just me, and keyboards, what's the point?
however, I think you've found an extreme case, and unless someone knows of a workaround, I wouldn't worry about it. |

I haven't tried any with bluetooth but my MS wireless intellimouse (usb) worked from the beginning. Plugged in the usb connector and booted up. Haven't popped for wireless keyboard yet.
Not trying to start an argument with h2 but wireless is definitely the way to go. I find the mice to be lighter and without the cord attached my hand is not restricted but free to use anywhere I want.

Either the BIOS supports USB HID devices (USB legacy support) or it doesn't, at that stage of the game the OS (or bootloader) can't do anything the BIOS doesn't provide. |

Try going into the BIOS and look for "Enable USB legacy support" option. Set it to Enabled, then save and exit BIOS. Reboot machine and you should be good to go. |
