Is it possible to replace the latest xorg with
the previous version? How?

Suppose, it's very difficult. It's Xorg, "resistance is futile" (devil had/has that in his sig.).
What's wrong with 7.1.1?

If you really want to go down that road then probably installing Kanotix Easter is the right decision. I don't had this version installed, but probably the Xorg version there is 6.9 or 7.0 |

xorg 6.9 is not possible, xorg 7.0 dont make much sense.
what is wrong with 7.1x?

S3 driver is not working with xorg 7.1.*. I have to use (slower) vesa
driver in 2006-01-RC4. I use Kanotix inside Virtual PC:

BTW, I've reinstalled Easter Edition and it is working OK with S3 driver. Then I've updated s3 driver with:

apt-get update
apt-get install xserver-org-video-s3
(as a consequnce all of xorg get updated to 7.1.0-6) and Kanotix stopped working (blank screen at loading KDE).
Do you have any idea how to make 7.1.* working again? Is it possible
to use older(*) s3 driver with the latest xorg? How?

(*) For example maybe the latest version before 0.4.*. This is 0.3.5.4-3

| Try running h2's update-scripts, they can probably solve the problems after the Xorg-Update. If this doesn't helps or you can again only use Vesa then it's probably better to stick to the Kanotix Easter without changes to the X system. |
