          | I'm trying to back up data to a DVD, but K3b exits with an error any time it encounters a file name with accented, non-ASCII characters (e.g., ÄäÖöÜü). Unfortunately, I have a lot of file names like that.
 Is there some setting or work-around for this? Would you recommend using another DVD burner?

          | Just a guess............maybe set up locales for UTF8? I have never used K3B and I have no files w/ names such as you have to actually see if something like GnomeBaker would work. To set up UTF8 do:
 Code:
dpkg-reconfigure locales
 Note that there are still some apps that do not work w/ UTF8 too well like midnight commander. To work around it I launch mc like this:

 Code:
export LANG=c
mc

 You could just alias that in your ~/.bashrc if you like.

          | It's possible that you may need to change your Region & Language setting. I had a similar problem several years ago and here is what I did.
 K -> Control Center -> Regional & Accessibility -> Country/Region & Language.

 On that screen, you will see a drop down box beside "Country". I chose "America, North" and "United States of America" and clicked "Apply". I logged out, logged back in and that fixed the problem.

 Regarding K3b, it's the best CD-DVD burner program that I know of.
