Hi, can somebody please help me out here, I'm (almost) brand new to Linux, I've got Kanotix Thorhammer 2007 installed with WINXP (both on separate hard-disks). Linux was fine until I tried to set up my graphic card (Nvidia GeForce2 MX/MX400) for “clone” view (works perfectly in Windows) under configure/display/driver/enable twin view. It told me to restart X-Server....big mistake! X-Server starts, machine only goes into “console” mode up to login and won't boot Linux. So I log in, but now what? I should add that the CD version of same Linux recognises my graphics card (from the “Info Centre”). Please somebody explain to me how I get Linux back up and how to then configure graphics card for Clone / Dual View. Much obliged |

No you only need to use
install-nvidia-debian.sh -d
option to my script or
install-nvidia-debian.sh -dt
if you want to clone on tv screen. nvidia-setting can be used then. |

I tried both instructions, console returns "you must be root to run this script". When I try to logon as root it won't accept name/password combination even though I know the'yre correct, I've used them both inside Kanotix when it booted properly. Also I'm not quite sure what you mean when you write "option to my script". I'm coming close to a new install here. |

Sorry, I got into "root" with su. Your instruction brought me back into Kanotix proper, but still no clone. |

Until you enable Twinview in xorg.conf you still need to enable it using nvidia-settings (also in systems menu). |

Sorry to be such a nuisance, but in Nvidia x server settings, under “configure display device” I can't choose twin view, it's grayed out (separate X screen is activated) and I have no idea how to activate it in xorg.conf. Could you please provide some more detail or a possible link to some more detail, I'm a little in the dark here. |

Maybe your card is too old or you did not use -d option to my script. |

Well you should run:
update-scripts-kanotix.sh
before to update it. Then run the script mentioned. |

The -dt extension on script finally brought twin view in on nVidia settings. I'd already updated scripts. This is my current scenario..,second monitor (TV) has responded in size but still doesn't have picture. Nvidia settings layout now shows both screens (at 1024x768) but “detect displays” has no effect. Should I activate “save to x configuration” file? Configure Kdesktop finally shows both screens but “identify screens” only indicates “1”. I must be missing something here....I haven't yet come across any settings for S-Video, & Co. Any ideas please? |

I've decided on a Kanotix fresh install, to ensure a “normal” xorg.conf. I've reinstalled Nvidia drivers and set up graphics card for TwinView Clone. I've entered following values in xorg.conf...“SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50", "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60" and changed “Composite” to “SVideo”. With resolution of 1024 x 768 I get nothing on TV. Monitor will only clone to TV with resolution 640 x 480, TV is in b/w and both screens are irregularly shaped. Here is relevant section of xorg.conf

Can somebody please check this out for me? I could also use a complete beginners guide to setting this cloning up (it was so much simpler on Windows). Is it possible to set up cloning on CD “live” install using Nvidia drivers? I'm at a complete loss here and considering Ubuntu as an alternative, it has to be easier! Thankful for all help offered |
