Thank you for providing kanotix64-cebit-2013.iso. Nice piece of work. Very nice ...
How to boot kanotix64-cebit-2013 so that the nvidia video card drivers are used? Any bootcode?
Would like to use those drivers with the livecd.
Thank you. |

Sorry to disturb you again. Where can I find info on 'gfxdetect'?
Am at a loss : do not knew how to use
Code:
gfxdetect
Thought is was a command, it is not.
Tried it as a bootcode, no result.
Am reading everywhere about " gfxdetect mode". But how can I reach that mode.
Thank you. |

The boot option is "gfx=auto" (on hd: "rw gfx=auto"). When you use the Special ISO then grub menu has got lots of Kanotix (gfxboot) entries in Live mode. I dont see a huge problem to select em. If you already hd installed as root (use su):
Code:
sed -i 's/\(^GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=\).*/\1"quiet rw gfx=auto"/;s/\(^GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=\).*/\1""/' /etc/default/grub
update-grub
If you like to compare the binary against the oss driver you can use "gfx=mesa" override. There is no need to uninstall the binary drivers to try mesa ones. |

Just to say : thank you very much.
Had done a frugal install of the kanotix64-cebit-2013.iso on an usb-stick, booting with old grub. Didn't look carefully enough at the grub2 entries on the LiveCD.
Wish to thank you for nice choice of programs on the CD.
And once more : thank you for kind replies to solve the problem. |

Basically the experience is better when you use "dd if=kanotix.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=1M" as then you can enable persitent mode more easy. |

Hi, I used the gfxdetect option, and nvidia works fine, but at every reboot xorg.conf gets overwritten with this simple config:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
EndSection
this forces me to set up resolution every time I reboot.
So, where does this xorg.conf come from? Can i replace it with my own?
If I just overwrite and set read-only it gets overwritten at next reboot anyway..
edit: thanks that fixed it |

You can use a custom config, just name it xorg.conf.nvidia or when you switch between other nvidia cards more often and you want to use that config just for this specific card call it xorg.conf.vvvvdddd where vvvv is the vendor id and dddd the device id in lowercase. |
