I am a terrible pack-rat when it comes to packages. Is there any program out there that can seach and tell you if a package hasn't been used for let say a year, and then you can decide to get rid of it if you have no more interest in it? |

you can look at orphaner and deborphan.
they will look for stuff leftover from removals and unused libs.
call it with: apt-get remove --purge $(deborphan)
and issue it a few times, until it dont find anymore orphans.
you can call remove-orphans as well.
