I, like others, spend my time asking questions, having difficulties with minor annoyances, etc., but, I have to take time out to thank you for all of your hard work. Over the last year, or so, I have attempted to escape the MS grip, have more fun with my computer, and be more in control of "my" computing universe. Without programmers like you I could never even have attempted it. I now do not have MS on my laptop, Kanotix 2005-4. I have a dual boot on my desktop Kanotix 2005-4/XP, and am looking with a gleeful eye towards my wife's computer. I played with many distro's over the past few weeks, Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Knoppix, Xandros (2.5 & 3.0), Damn Small Linux, Puppy, and Feather. Always come back to Kanotix. Just enough programmed in, just enough for me to fiddle with to be productive. I use dial-up most of the time and I have had few problems. The ones I did have I worked out and posted the solution here. So, it is possible to use dial-up, use Linux nearly full-time, and still be productive--THANKS KANO. |
