Dear All,
I want to use a couple of programs that need to use gambas. Gambas ,however, will not install because it wants libqt3c102-mt which will not install on my Kanotix.
I have quite a few programs that like the libqt3-mt and may not accept libqt3c102-mt.
When I was using Mepis I used both qt libraries somehow and there was something I had to do to be able to do this. I just do not remember what it was. I have researched this for weeks and have not found out what to do.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much.

What repository are you using to install it?
On my box, the command
dpkg-query -W -f='Package ${Package} v${Version}\ndepends on ${Depends}\n' gambas-gb-qt
returns
Package gambas-gb-qt v1.0.15-1
depends on libc6 (>= 2.3.5-1), libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.0), libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.3.6), libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.0), gambas-runtime
No "libqt3c102-mt" required, when installed out of the Debian "main" pool. |

It should be as simple as:
- Start up Synaptic, do a search on "gambas," and uninstall it
- As root, in your favorite text editor, comment out (i.e. put a "#" in front of) the gambas repository you have in your sources.list, or just delete it altogether
- Refresh your sources (run apt-get update, or in Synaptic, press the "Reload" button)
- In Synaptic, reinstall gambas
In other words, don't use the gambas repository they suggest, just install it from the regular Debian Unstable repository. |

Well you can just get gambas from Debian as eco2geek said. Comment the gambas repo - you don't need it and it looks outdated to me. It is a good idea to always check to see if the package(s) you want are in Debian before adding another repository. |

**censored** Piper,
**censored** you for taking the time to **censored**. I've been wanting to know how to **censored**, but just can't **censored** any **censored**, so please **censored** me if you can. Would it work if I **censored** **censored** **censored**?
**censored** you,
eco2geek
Seriously, the Kanotix team, unfortunately, has to worry about getting hit with fines if it even gives the appearance of enabling people to use certain kinds of software. It would seem that German law is even more draconian than American law in this respect. |

And it's American companies, in large part, that are driving these laws, in Germany and elsewhere.
It's bad enough we can't legally do certain things with our Linux boxes due to shortsighted companies; it's even worse that, due to the German legal system, we can't even talk about it...at least you (still) can in the US...but we've talked all that to death in other threads.
Perhaps it's time to join The Pirate Party. Did you know there's a "Piratpartiet" in Sweden, that's gained enough support to participate in the next parliamentary elections? |

Thanks to all of you. I have succeeded because of your suggestions. I uninstalled with kpackage the gambas runtime, etc that I had since kpackage seems to work fine for me. Then I disabled the repositories you mentioned as well as enabled the debian unstable. I was then able to install the gambas packages easily. My program and my gambas programs work.
Thank you very much for your help.
I thought the censored stuff was very strange at first until you explained, so now I understand. Thanks for explaining it so well and kindly.
Thanks again all of you for your generous help.
Sincerely,
Marcia |
