          | Hi all, need some advice/help here,
just got a new computer and everything works great
with the 2006Easter, except my sound card (and my DVD
burner but I will create a new topic for that). I do have sound
but I only have 1 channel. If I go to the mixer of Kmix or Alsa
I only get one channel, that allows me to left/right sound.
No mic, no CD volume, inputs etc. Just the main left right
 option.

And I need the mic options et all @ Kmix.

I tried another live CD's (just to check that out, without
installing) and they do recognize the full sound card.

The sound card came with my new computer, they refer to it as
 "8 Channel Hi-Definition Audio on-board"

 Any help will be appreciated.

          | Try a kernel update. See left side on the tracker. |

          | Combination i915GM and ALC880? Use alsaconf and try I8x0 or i915 as the soundcard. |

          | Hi,
alsaconf detects my sound card as hda-intel: nVidia Corporation MCP55
 High Definition Audio (rev a2)

 and

legacy: Probe legacy ISA (non PnP) chips

I have tried to configure it (with alsaconf) and everything "goes well" but the
card detection configuration won't improve. Stays the same.

Haven't done the kernel update. I never had, don't want to break
 my new system
.. Is there some info/guide on how to do it?
 Thank you.

          | Check the Kanotix maual link for that. You can use either the Kanotix-Update-GUI http://linux.kopporama.de/en/km_update.html or get the command line info from the irc
Sound card problems can be daunting. I had to fight this issue when I first started using linux, but stick with it, you'll learn a lot.

          | Hi all,

I just update my kernel to 2.6.17.7-slh-up-. It works great. Thank you Kano
for pointing me into that direction and thank you all for the directions and advice.

 It's true.

And now my sound card works perfectly.
