I followed these instructions
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/reference/ch-package.en.html
The relavant section is ---> 6.4.11 Local package archive
also I also tried
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/repository-howto/repository-howto.en.html#trivial-example
When I apt-update every thing goes fine and the file shows in synaptic.
But when I try to install one its errors

W: Failed to fetch file:/usr/local//usr/local/pool/mypackage_4.0.1693-1_i386.deb
File not found
I tried all 3 methods but I get the exact same results.
The relevant source list section in order of the guides
Lines from sources.list (they are in order of the how tos I posted)
deb file:///usr/local/ unstable main #packages locacted in /usr/local/pool
deb file:/usr/local/debian/ ./ #packages located in /usr/local/debian
deb file:///usr/local/binary/ binary/ #packages located in /usr/local/binary |

I get the same error. I tried create an sys link to compensate but that doesn't work either. |

I dont' know anything about this, nor have I tried it, but should we expect:
file:/usr/local/pool/mypackage_4.0.1693-1_i386.deb
instead of:
file:/usr/local//usr/local/pool/mypackage_4.0.1693-1_i386.deb
?
... ie it's as if it's trying to add the 2nd "/usr/local" for the 1st "/usr/local/"
... it all looks very confusing to me (and and I don't know why I'm posting)
... but if I'm right then the source file should be:
deb file:// unstable main #packages locacted in /usr/local/pool
instead of:
deb file:///usr/local unstable main #packages locacted in /usr/local/pool
?
... or maybe:
deb file:///usr/local/ unstable main #packages locacted in pool
? |

results in
file://usr/local/dists/unstable/main/bi ... ckages.gz: Invalid URI, local URIS must not start with //
deb file:///usr/local/ unstable main #packages locacted in pool
is what I started with |

Well I am out of my on conversation know. I accidentaly formatted the partition with all my data on it while testing out the new debian intstaller.
I got nothing left but an empty partition |
