          | I find that when I change themes in gnome the metacity border design  and icons change fine but the controls remain the same throughout all themes, not even the color changes. 
 Anybody know what the problem is. Thanks.

          | Do you have gtk2-engines-gtk-qt (or whatever it's called) installed?  If so it will override whatever theme you choose in gnome. Look in your home directory and delete the file .gtkrc-2.0 and themes should be back to normal in gnome.

          | That was exactly the reason. I removed gtk2-engines-gtk-qt and all the .gtkrc files and the themes change properly.
