Hi, all,
I've noticed that for the last week (perhaps two), "init 3" (as root, of course) doesn't stop kdm, x, or kde. It seems to go through (no errors reported), and complains if I try it and I'm not root.
Is there something up with this? Any clues as to what I can/should do? I'm using the 2.6.16-kanotix-1 kernel (newer ones don't seem to allow speed-stepping on my centrino chip, and I haven't bothered to compile my own).
Oh: And if I type '3' on the "cheat" line during the initial boot, I get the same result -- booting directly into kdm (actually, gdm... hm... could that affect ANYTHING?) rather than to the command line. |

Thank you, drb (and to Hack-o-Master). I actually read that thread earlier, but for some reason it didn't stick well enough for me to go back and read in more detail.
I ended up sort of hosing my system (perhaps; perhaps not. Even doing a reinstall from the Easter CD didn't fix things. The main thing I screwed up was networking; otherwise I could just rdiff things back to the way they were). So it gave me the chance to install the latest RC1! All's well, after some tweaking. |
