I have a Thinkpad t20 with a savage card.
With Kanotix 2005 and an older version of Ubuntu, i don't have direct rendering, but glxgears goes with a remarkable speed.
With kanotix easter edition and with the latest kubuntu i have problems.
Kubuntu is unable to start X. And Kanotix too. I had to use the cheat xmodule=vesa.
Then Kanotix is able to use X but glxgear is sooooooooooo slow.
The problem is that also movies play with xine is too slow and i can't watch them.
Since i got the same problem with 2 different distros, i guess there is something wrong in the driver. Can i downgrade it? Or i must reinstall the old Kanotix2005?

I have the same problem with my T22 and Xorg 7.0. I hope Xorg 7.1 will fix this. |

I kinda solved it. I can watch movies but when i run glxgears i can see only a black rectangle inside its window.
To "fix" it i did the following steps:
1 - Upgrade xserver-xorg packages.
2 - Run the older ubuntu live cd and copy its xorg.conf
3 - Join the xorg.conf from the ubuntu to the one created by Kanotix.
I attach the modified xorg.conf, and i hope someone will be able to make opengl run too.
See ya |
