I upgraded X to 7.1, and other misc. I don't see any proplems yet.
One problem I did see before upgrade and still currently, when I put in a CD, Konquerer dosn't see the files onboard. I get the popup asking me what to do, but it just an empty vessel. I right click->mount, get flasing lights, but still no files.
I used Krusader in root, mounted, then both Konquerer and Krusader would see the files, but then would not unmount. I forgot how I finally unmounted it (whether Krusader or Konquerer).
Isn't there an automount/autounmount somewhere?
I searched the forums and came up empty.
Thanks as always |

You are a tough guy. Upgrading xorg with kpackage is tough. You might enjoy a night out here in Budapest at the moment
CD, not seeing files, I had that problem on a colleague's laptop a few weeks ago, it was solved with the repairing of an old bug in a library (?) a few weeks ago which was affecting udev on a few configurations. A full blown dist-upgrade might help (but please, do it in init 3).

I am using Kantonix 2006-01-RC2, now I see RC3 is out. I didn't run into any problems, just marked what I wanted and clicked install. rebooted (because I am used to rebooting Win all the time
The system is an Intel i845GVSR mobo, with Cel. 2.8Ghz. I believe Intel's hardware is well supported in Linux, so maybe that helped.
I'll have to add a sig. to let everyone know. |

turbowsr, very brave may I suggest two ways to do a proper d-u (dist-upgrade) for the future
Ctrl+Alt+F1 ( logon as root)
type init 3
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
run fix-fonts
run update-scripts-kanotix.sh
run fglrx or nvidia script if xorg updated or after kernel upgrade
DO NOT DIST-UPGRADE or UPGRADE with adept or synaptic *always* check Current Warnings on http://kanotix.com/News.html
or
Use the script in my sig |

h2's update script rules.
I have used it a few times and never ran into any problems.
I am running Easter RC4 with daily d-u, and all is well. Not really missing much, I prefer to see what is booting in case of any problems., so the bootsplash isn't something I would want anyway. |

Not "brave". I really didn't know better
I use the PC for just a few things, they all work. I surf the web, I write my composition lessons in Kword (used to MS Word), and interface with college classes online. Thats about it so as long as tho's don't break I am fine.
This PC was sitting on the floor gathering dust, my good one crashed, I pulled this PC up and went thru several Live -CD's until I found Kantonix. It found my wireless lan, a few clicks later I was surfing again. I used my wifes PC until then.
So if the upgrade crashed the system, I would just re-install...I'm used to it, remember I used Windows
Everyone here acts as tho crashing is a bad thing...Its an excellent feature on Windows. (thats sarcasm, or is it) |

turbowsr,
you are right. A crashing Windows is excellent, especially for secretaries. They get a day off. If I were a secretary, I would refuse to work with Linux.
