Added the above repository to install beryl yesterday and all went fine.
A check with d-u found a new wine package which will remove libwine-gl and wine-utils which are older. I checked and found that the new wine package is from kanotixguide.
Question: Should I comment out the kanotixguide repository once I installed beryl to avoid these issues or are kanotixguide.org packages pretty much going to be sid in a short time? |

Interesting, the wine packages are usually pretty delayed in the Debian repository. I have since a few days version 0.9.20, but this one is imo already about 5 weeks old. Which version did you got? |

My current version is 0.9.20-1 like yours. The kanotixguide version is 0.9.22-1. I did not do the upgrade, since it would have removed the other packages. |

The repository at kanotixguide.org is maintained and managed by Makke. Most but not all packages there are usually compiled by him on and for Kanotix/Debian Sid. They are either early birds, which will make it later on into Kanotix and (probably) Debian sid repositories, or sometimes bring applications into Kanotix which have not been packaged for Debian properly before. He always brings to us newest wine versions before they hit Debian, and preparing parts of Beryl was another example. This is however not an official Kanotix or Debian repository, as all other additional repositories you might hear about in Kanotix are not.
You can trust Makke - he is a valuable member of the Kanotix team. However, you should always be careful with non-official repositories. If you need a specific application or tool known to be in such repository, add it temporarily, install your stuff, and de-activate the repository again. Specially when running dist-upgrades you should keep your sources.list clean.
Greetings,
Chris |
