          | I recently upgrade to 2.6.18-slh-up-2, and I du'ed right after that. Now I see the following message during bootup: Mounting local filesystems -- failed. The system still seems to be functioning well, though some apps seem to take a long time responding when accessing a drive. All drives also show mounted in the Mount Manager for Krusader. All drive icons have disappeared, though.
I've checked fstab and, so far as I can tell, there's nothing amiss there. It's identical to the last backup file when I did not have this message.

 Any advice or insight?

          | That single message I believe shows up from mtab, and if I remember correctly, slh said this: don't worry about it, it's meaningless. That's assuming you're seeing only that single red flagged mount error, I see that too, it's nothing. |

          | There are two vfat32 partitions on the drive. This is happening on a T30 laptop. I have substantially the same setup on a desktop, running kernel 2.6.18-slh-up-2, and I don't recall seeing the same message, despite the existence of several vfat32 partitions on two different drives. The drive icons also have disappeared on the desktop.
Is there any fix for getting back the drive icons?

          | dont woory about it, it just means, that its been mounted already before fstab gets loaded. ignore it or comment it out in fstab.
for drive icons, for now: apt-get install hal/testing

          | Thanks. Downgrading hal returned the icons.
Any way to know when upgrading hal will not result in a loss of the icons?

Sorry, It is impossible to say when Debian developers build working packages for SID.
