Titel: Beryl won't work after a system upgrade  BeitragVerfasst am: 25.10.2006, 16:10 Uhr

I had beryl working just fine...everything worked. I foolishly did a system upgrade. Now beryl "starts" with the beryl-manager command, the manager system tray icon comes up. I can open the beryl manager, theme manager, but beryl does not work...can't switch desktops, rotate the cube.
I tried uninstalling beryl, then stepping back through ockham23's post and the steps shown with the same results. Any ideas?

Thanks, Gizmo

need to right click the beryl icon and go to Load Window manager. Select Beryl, then OK. beryl defaults to Kwin, which deactivates the "eye candy"

Thank DeepDayze...I should have seen that. Just got short sighted when it didn't "seem" to load. It is working as always. One other question. Can Beryl be set to start when I boot? Automatically load beryl-manager with Beryl selected as the desktop manager?

Thanks again,

Gizmo

you can do this -
Code:
ln -s /usr/bin/beryl-manager ~/.kde/Autostart/beryl-manager
to create a symlink in your kde autostart directory.
However, I have found it's hit and miss whether or not the window manager actually starts.
I've been searching around and found a few bits of info that haven't helped but I tried this -
Click on the beryl tray icon and go to Beryl Settings Manager>General Options> and uncheck Detect Refresh Rate, the continue to Numerical Values and set the refresh rate up full to 200. It won't run at this refresh rate apparently, it's just to get around a bug in beryl. At least that's what I read on ubuntu forums.
Since I changed it it has started up properly each time.
