I'm trying to understand the logic behind Kanotix inclusion of /etc/modutils directory and /etc/modules.conf file that is created when update-mudules is run.
Kanotix installs by default both /etc/modprode.d and /etc/modutils directories which can then be edited to one's content. If (with respect to reading help suggestions on the net) I interpret Kanotix to be similar to a Debian installation I would theoretically want to edit files in /etc/modutils and then run update-modules to create the file /etc/modules.conf (before rebooting). But in the init-scripts (rcS.d and rc5.d) installed by default there appears no reference to the use of this file (/etc/modules.conf).
My question is: are /etc/modutils and modules.conf being used at all in Kanotix? somewhere else? If there was a purpose in adding /etc/modutils, what was it and what benefits are hoped for in it?
Thanks for any reply that will help me understand the hardware boot logic rather than a how-to.
