Have to reinstall because of big blowup. Oh well. I want to dig out some of my critical conf files, and save them else where while doing the reinstall. Question: what is the password to get into root on the 2006-01-rc4 Live CD? |

There isn't one.
Just like in Knoppix, to get root, just bring up a console and type "su". KDE will ask you for one if you run some apps, such as qtparted or "File Manager - Super User Mode", in which case you'll have to set one yourself. |

You can start any root app with sudo in livecd.
for example, to run a gui app like gparted, just use the 'run command' option, and type in: sudo gparted
And if you want to use a root console command, same thing: sudo mcedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
or whatever |

Thankyou. Forgot about that about kanotix. All I remember is that there were other distros that demanded a password, butwas not always made odvious. |

The other thing to try is to actually read the Live-CD manual that pops up when the Live-cd is booted
Its called the Kanotix-offline-FAQ
The Tab you wanted is called 'Live Mode',,
Also the very first page has a reference to root rights with a link to the Live Mode tab |
