I am not a very big fan of java but some java apps actually work pretty good. I've been meaning to start a list of good java apps and bad java apps. I consider a java app to be good if it does not hog my resources, works as advertised and, exits cleanly and (perhaps less importantly) does not look too ugly. A few good java apps that I know of:
Numerical Chameleon a very impressive number converter. It does it all.
Zitat:
The NumericalChameleon is a free, open source, platform-independent and localized software to convert units.
Try it, you'll be impressed!
Jdiskreport a nice disc usage tool. Very well detailed output.
Zitat:
This is ad- and nag-free uncrippled binary multi-platform software that is free of charge and that never expires.
Also at the aforementioned link is Jpathreport but I have no personal experience with it's usage.
Please feel free to post your own java apps here but only if you've really tested them and can actually verify that they do (or do not) work. Afterall a useless page of links is just.......well a useless page of links. |

Tunnel4J is a little utility for people who need to access resources behind firewalls via ssh connections
I tried out this handy little utility and yeah baby it works well. I wanted to access my router interface from outside my home network but turning on the WAN access is a bad bad idea. Using ssh I can tunnel in and bring up my routers interface as if I were sitting at home. |

QNext is a multi-platform, multi-protocol instant messenger client that supports video and voice conferencing. Was the first java app that impressed me as far as usability and stability. |

PassReminder
Zitat:
PassReminder is a free password manager. It keeps password secure.
Been using it for a long while now and it works great. Only problem was when I installed eclipse which seems to install different version of java, but otherwise no problems. |

If you do any translations, OmegaT is a good Java program.
Been using it for about a year and a half. It keeps getting better.
It offers similar function to Wordfast/Trados.
It processes OOo files, html, and some others.
