Hello, I'm new to kanotix (I'm new to forums too, this is my second attempt to post a topic)
My Linux box is and old AMD 1.6G fitted wth a Samsung SM-304B Combo drive. I have no problems with CDs - data, audio or video but the system doesn't appear to acknowledge the existence of a DVD. I'd be grateful of any suggestions that would help me play DVD movies.
Thanks. |

Most DVDs use CSS (Content Scramble System) as a protection against illegal copying. So you need additional software to unlock the DVD. However, Debian can't provide this software because it's closed source and would have to be purchased under a commercial licensing agreement. |

Thanks, ockham23,
I don't think it's a codec problem because it won't recognise data dvd's either. |
