I am a new linux user. I am lost. I installed Kanotix to my Laptop and set up internet. I was all happy then I turned off my comp and went to sleep. Then I woke up and tried to turn on my comp and use the internet and for some reason I had none. So i tried to set it up again or something. But as I tried for some reason the root password that I had set up is no longer there, it is saying invalid password. Any suggestions on what I should do???????

What version of Kanotix are you using ?
I don't know "how" you tried to set it up again (internet) so you can try typing
netcardconfig or going to kmenu > kanotix > networking/internet > network card configuration, if using DHCP say yes to both questions.
If that works (you have internet)
Do
Ctrl+Alt+F1 (logon as root)
type init 3
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
run fix-fonts
run update-scripts-kanotix.sh
run fglrx or nvidia script
DO NOT DIST-UPGRADE or UPGRADE with adept or synaptic always check Current Warnings on http://kanotix.com/News.html
That should fix your "root" problem
An easier way to use d-u (dist-upgrade) would be to use the script (h2's d-u script) in my sig. PLEASE read carefully. |
