Is there a reason why when I run install-kernel-kanotix.sh the simbolic links weren't created? I had to manually create them with
Code:
cd /boot
ln -s initrd.img-2.6.17.11-kanotix-2 initrd.img
ln -s vmlinuz-2.6.17.11-kanotix-2 vmlinuz

And related to this - what is the difference between kernel-2.6.17.11-kanotix-2.zip and kernel-2.6.17.11-slh-up-1.zip which are both listed as "Stable Kernels". Which one is advised to use? |

up stands for uniprocessor.
the kanotix kernel is an smp-enabled kernel.

I removed those symlinks. They are usally not needed. Just a little cleanup. |

I like that cleanup. No double listing of kernels in grub is fine.

So which one is the recommended latest stable kernel for a up machine? |

I use the up one because the smp ones have bugs on all of my Athlon 64 processors (running in 32 bit mode).
I would suggest the up kernel.

But given that kernel-2.6.17.11-kanotix-2.zip seems to be the "official" kernel release by Kano, and does not bother to state "smp" in it's title so that must not be a significant fact, then should it be the kernel chosen by somebody who just wants to follow the official kanotix release? I only have a up pentium 4 but I note that the kernel on the 2006-RC4 live CD is SMP enabled. Seems that is the preferred one? |
